Sai Van Lake Square

Sai Van Lake Square was formerly known as Nam Van Roundabout. It is the second-largest square in Macau, located in front of the Macau Tower, at the Macau landing point of the Sai Van Bridge, and along the scenic Sai Van Lake Road. In 1998, Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau built the Macau Tower on this site, prompting the Portuguese Macau government to construct a primarily circular square in front of the tower for use as a venue for large-scale events.

By the end of 2001, with the completion and opening of the Macau Tower, Sai Van Lake Square was also opened to the public. Since then, it has replaced Senado Square as the annual venue for Macau’s New Year’s Eve countdown celebrations, attracting many singers and entertainment stars from Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, and abroad. In addition, it has become a venue for various concerts, community days, and the Macau Schools Flag-Raising Ceremony. Surrounded by the scenic waters of Sai Van Lake, the square boasts beautiful lake and mountain views, a pleasant environment, and fresh air, drawing large numbers of tourists year-round to admire its charm. In recent years, food street events have frequently been held here, featuring a variety of cuisines from around the world and mainland China, attracting even more visitors to sightsee and enjoy local delicacies.
