Hong Kong Chunfeng Pavilion

Chunfeng Pavilion is located at the foot of Xiangnu Peak in Baxian Ridge, Tai Po, Hong Kong. It was built to commemorate the two teachers—Mr. Chow Chi-chi and Ms. Wong Sau-mei—who sacrificed their lives to save others during the Baxian Ridge wildfire on February 10, 1996. The name “Chunfeng Pavilion” conveys the deep gratitude owed to education for nurturing all things.

Chunfeng Pavilion was unveiled on the afternoon of March 12, 1996, by then-Governor of Hong Kong, Chris Patten.

The three Chinese characters “春风亭” (Chunfeng Pavilion) on the horizontal plaque are calligraphy by the master of traditional Chinese painting, Fang Zhaoling (mother of Anson Chan). Inside the pavilion are three inscribed stone tablets: the central one is a memorial tablet for the unveiling ceremony by the Governor, while the two side tablets feature bilingual (Chinese-English) inscriptions written by then-Director of Education, Mrs. Rosanna Ure, detailing the events. Two podocarpus trees are planted in front of the pavilion.

Chunfeng Pavilion is situated at the second stop of the Baxian Ridge Nature Trail within Baxian Ridge Country Park, accessible by ascending the stone steps from the inlet water channel entrance. The pavilion sits against the continuous peaks of Baxian Ridge and faces Plover Cove Reservoir.
