Hong Kong's Handover Memorial Tower serves as a patriotic education site.

Hong Kong's Handover Memorial Tower is located within Tai Po Waterfront Park and is one of the major architectural landmarks built to commemorate the 1997 handover of Hong Kong to China.

The entire waterfront park covers an area of 22 hectares, featuring a 1,200-meter-long promenade completed in 1994, gardens, rest areas, jogging trails, cycling paths, and a 600-seat open-air theater.

Hong Kong's Handover Memorial Tower is a 32.4-meter-high observation tower open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower to enjoy panoramic views of the entire Tai Po Waterfront Park and the nearby Tai Po Industrial Estate by Tolo Harbour.

Beneath the tower is a commemorative plaque that outlines the significance of building this memorial: the brave resistance and sacrifices made by New Territories villagers during the early years when Hong Kong was ceded to Britain; their fight against Japanese occupation during the war; and their active participation in the development and prosperity of the New Territories after Hong Kong’s liberation. The plaque also notes that the British landed at the site of the memorial tower when they took over the New Territories, making it a fitting location to erect the tower in commemoration of Hong Kong’s return to China.

Recently, the waterfront park has added a fan-shaped flower sea. Viewed from the Hong Kong's Handover Memorial Tower, the flower sea resembles a rainbow, adding vibrant colors to the park. The flower sea blooms year-round, showcasing a variety of colorful seasonal flowers.

The waterfront park also offers other recreational facilities, such as a lawn bowls green and an insect museum. Visitors can take a taxi from the park to the Tai Po Railway Museum, which is just a 15-minute ride away.
