Gongnaisi in Yili, meaning "Sun Slope" in Mongolian, is located within Xinyuan County, Yili. It is the homeland of Xinjiang fine-wool sheep and a renowned birthplace of the "Heavenly Horse—Yili Horse." The terrain of Gongnaisi Grassland in Yili is undulating and spectacular, featuring both mountain and valley grasslands, with pastures available in all four seasons, along with rivers, lakes, springs, streams, wild fruits, alpine flowers, and rare wildlife—offering a wealth of enchanting sights.

The Gongnaisi Grassland in Yili boasts beautiful scenery all year round, but it is at its best from [June to August]. In June, Kazakh herders migrate here from their winter pastures, filling the air of blooming flowers and birdsong with the sounds of herding songs, grazing herds, beautifully dressed girls, and bold horsemen, bringing vibrant life to the magnificent grassland. Just three kilometers from Xinyuan County, the Qiahepu Waterfall, formed by the plunging waters of the Qiahepu River, roars down as one of the key attractions of Gongnaisi.

Gongnaisi Grassland mainly refers to the valley and mountain grasslands connected by the Gongnaisi River system, representing a typical distribution area of the diverse grassland types in Yili. Most of Gongnaisi Grassland lies within the jurisdiction of Xinyuan County, at an altitude of 800–2,084 meters. The area is vast, with numerous valleys, and is one of Xinjiang's most famous grasslands. It is not only the homeland of Xinjiang fine-wool sheep but also an important birthplace of the Yili Heavenly Horses. Gongnaisi Grassland enjoys abundant rainfall, a well-developed water system, and a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

The golden season of the grassland runs from June to September. The vast plains, beautiful hills, herds of cattle and sheep, and scattered yurts form the living landscape of summer on the grassland. The grassland resembles a carpet woven in vibrant colors—green base, silver edges, flower bands—that looks especially magnificent and grand against the blue sky. Snow-capped peaks, flowery alpine meadows, emerald spruce forests, and silvery streams, with babbling brooks and gurgling springs. From time to time, foxes, marmots, wild boars, and snowcocks appear among the forests and grass. Every summer, numerous domestic and international tourists come here to experience the stunning scenery and rich ethnic culture of the Yili Grassland.
