Monument and Tomb of Asim

The celebrated Kazakh folk musician, Asim Donshi, was born in 1896 in Xiaoerbulake, Xinyuan County. He started learning the dombra at the age of 13. After the 1930s, as Xinjiang’s ethnic cultural and artistic scene flourished, Asim Donshi advanced his musical artistry and showcased his talent to the world. In 1942, he participated in an arts performance in Ili, achieving outstanding results and engaging in experience exchanges.

After the liberation, under the leadership and care of the Party, he actively contributed to the work of national cultural revival. From 1952 to 1955, he worked with the regional and autonomous prefecture cultural troupes.

In 1957, he participated in a folk arts performance in Beijing, the capital, where he performed his own compositions such as “To the Leader,” “Prelude,” and “White Waves,” earning the title of “Folk Musician.” Throughout his life, Asim Donshi composed over 300 musical pieces, making significant contributions to the development of Kazakh culture and arts. He passed away in his hometown of Xiaoerbulake in 1962, but his works continue to shine brightly and live on.
