Xiaoerbula Ke Western Region Wine Culture Museum

The Xiaoerbula Ke Western Region Wine Culture Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Western Region Wine Culture Museum is located in Xiaoerbula Ke Town, Xinyuan County, and is currently the only comprehensive museum in Xinjiang that reflects the wine culture of the Western Region.

It is also the largest industrial culture museum in Xinjiang. Just 20 kilometers from Xinyuan County, 20 kilometers from Nalati Airport, and 70 kilometers from Nalati, it lies on the main route to the Nalati scenic area, and only three hours' drive from Yining, the regional capital. In 2007, it was awarded the titles of “National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Site” and “Shanghai Guinness (China’s Greatest) — Outdoor Artistic Pottery Vats with the Largest Wine Storage Capacity”; in 2008, it was further rated as a national AAA-level tourist attraction. Here, you can fully experience the ancient brewing techniques and the charm of 3,000 years of Western Region wine culture, and sample 36 unique wines from the Western Region.

The museum consists of two main parts: indoor exhibition halls and outdoor display areas. The indoor exhibition halls have three floors, covering an area of 1,500 square meters. The exhibitions are divided into six major sections: “King Mu’s Western Tour and the Scent of Wine,” “The Western Region Has Produced Fine Wines Since Ancient Times,” “Eagles of the Western Region Drunk Under the Stars,” “Treasures of the Desert and Tales of Wine Utensils,” “Wine Rules, Wine Poetry, and the Ocean of Wine,” and “The Aroma of Wine in the Land Beyond the Great Wall.” The exhibitions display over 3,000 pictures and more than 200 pieces of antiques and artifacts; the oldest relics date back over 2,000 years.

The outdoor exhibition area covers 39,000 square meters, where nearly 2,000 large pottery wine jars filled with raw wine are arranged in an artful layout. Each jar has a capacity of 1,000 kilograms, and each is engraved with various wine-related maxims and poetic verses. In addition to its exhibition function, this wine storage base also serves a practical purpose: the climate of sunlight and rain, along with the changing of seasons from cold to hot, helps the raw wine mature and promotes the development of aromatic compounds, which greatly enhances the quality of the wine. It has been recognized by the Shanghai Great World Guinness as the “Guinness (China’s Greatest) — Outdoor Artistic Pottery Jars with the Largest Wine Storage Capacity.”
