Deng Zuoxian Memorial Hall is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural relic protection unit of Yecheng.

Mr. Deng Zuoxian was a pioneer and practitioner of the spirit of supporting Xinjiang in the new era, writing an important chapter in the local history of Xinjiang. Yige Design Institute spent a year completing the design, construction, and exhibition arrangement of the memorial park. The park adopts the architectural style of Qing Dynasty government offices and is structured around four aspects of a county magistrate’s life — “work, life, belief, and responsibility,” restoring the appearance of the county magistrate’s building from that time. At the same time, it also embodies a timeless spirit.

Deng Zuoxian (1875–?), styled Qizhou, was from Buxin Village, Lantang Town, Zijin County. He passed the imperial examination at the age of 13, was well-read in classics and history, and particularly skilled in poetry. He served as the head of the local assembly. In the early years of the Republic of China, he went to Beijing to take the civil service examination for county officials and was appointed as the magistrate of Yecheng County in Xinjiang. During his tenure, he taught locals how to build waterwheels to irrigate farmland, promoting the development of agricultural production in the border region. He served for over ten years, achieving remarkable political accomplishments and earning widespread public support. He later died in an incident involving the Hui people. Deng Zuoxian left behind many writings. On his way to take up the post, he wrote a poem that reads: “Riding far past Chang’an, I could not bear to see the starving people along the way.
