Amidst whispering bamboo-covered hills and rippling spring waters, ancient temples and mountain pavilions, refreshing tea and old trees, mossy stone paths, and the cacophony of cicadas—this is Heimifeng at the turn of late summer and early autumn, offering an indescribably beautiful sight. Changsha Heimifeng National Forest Park is located in Qiaoyi Town, northeastern Wangcheng District, just north of Changsha City. It is the largest and highest-altitude national forest park within the urban area. The park covers a total area of 4,079 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 80.2%, and its main peak stands at an elevation of 590.5 meters.

Heimifeng has long been renowned for its rich cultural heritage. The eminent Tang Dynasty Buddhist monk and calligrapher Huaisu, as well as the Ming Dynasty Zhengde Emperor Zhu Houzhao, once visited the mountain, and their calligraphy remains can still be seen today. The great Tang poet Liu Changqing also explored the mountains and left behind poems chronicling his travels. Legend has it that Lü Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals, once cultivated Taoism here, leaving behind over ten relics such as the "Longevity" character stone carving and Dongbin Cliff. As a result, Taoists refer to the mountain as "Dongyang Mountain," listing it as the 24th of the Thirty-Six Immortal Mountains and Blessed Landscapes. Later, Buddhist monks also came to the mountain, making it one of the four major Buddhist mountains in the Changsha area. The summit's "Dongyang Ancient Temple" enjoys enduring incense offerings and widespread fame.

There’s no need to go far this early autumn. From October 27 to 29, Changsha Heimifeng National Forest Park will host a national-level major sports event.
