Kashgar Bazaar

Located at the eastern gate of Kashgar City, the guide site is the largest international trade market in northwestern China.

"Bazaar," a term from the Uyghur language, means marketplace. Kashgar is a historic and cultural city along the ancient Silk Road and also a major hub for commodity distribution. In the past, merchants traveling from Xi'an, whether taking the southern or northern route of the Tianshan Mountains, would all converge here.

This bazaar has a history of over two thousand years and was known in ancient times as the "largest marketplace in Asia." The market features more than 5,000 stalls, offering nearly 10,000 kinds of goods, with a daily foot traffic of over 100,000 people.

Since the successive opening of the Khunjerab Pass and the Torugart Pass, international trade routes have been established, attracting a continuous stream of foreign tourists, merchants, and trade delegations. They bring a large variety of foreign goods to trade and also purchase many Chinese products from the bazaar.

Tip: Traditionally, the bazaar was open only on Sundays, but it now operates every day. However, if you want to experience the most bustling atmosphere, it’s best to visit on a Sunday.
