A belief from 30 years ago remains the same founding principle worth upholding today. MUJI held its 2014 autumn/winter new product showcase today (the 3rd). This year’s corporate image advertisement and the theme of the showcase, “Nature, Naturally, MUJI,” draw inspiration from the company’s advertising copy 30 years ago. New product development has also returned to its roots, starting from natural elements such as “air,” “water,” and “the environment,” while revisiting existing products for improvement. MUJI also presented two core concepts for its global flagship products at the showcase, in addition toa new gifting proposal titled “365 JOYFUL DAY”. Through the new product display and explanation, MUJI conveyed this autumn/winter product concept, continuing to offer appealing lifestyle solutions with a wide range of cross-category items!

The theme of this showcase, “Nature, Naturally, MUJI,” is taken from the 1983 corporate image ad copy. It aims to convey the idea that “nature exists naturally without a logo.” At the same time, it is based on the fundamental concept of developing products that showcase the inherent charm of materials. This belief has remained unchanged for 30 years. For MUJI’s 2014 Autumn/Winter global key products, the product features are divided into two main categories:“Quality and Value,” which offers practical everyday items with reasonable prices and reliable quality; and “Exquisite Selection,” which provides high-quality goods made from premium materials through minimal processing, making them accessible to the general public. These key products aim to strengthen communication with consumers, deepen brand affinity, and bring more comfortable, worry-free living.

MUJI, which has always emphasized the selection of high-quality materials, attention to production processes, and care for the environment, has returned to its founding principles from 30 years ago in its 2014 product development. The focus is on starting from “air,” “water,” and “the environment.” MUJI believes that the foundation of a comfortable life lies in clean air, advocating for fresh air first and then enjoying the healing effects of natural scents. Therefore, it has collaborated with professional manufacturers to develop air purifiers, which feature a sleek, compact design and low noise—perfectly suited for Taiwanese households. In addition, it plans to introduce household appliances such as kettles, automatic press-type toasters, and rice cookers. Although their release dates in Taiwan are still undecided, this is undoubtedly great news for consumers eagerly awaiting these products.

Additionally, MUJI leverages Japan’s soft “water” with low mineral content to develop products. For example, down comforters are washed with ultra-soft water, and through the deep cleansing effect of extremely fine water molecules, the down achieves maximum fluffiness, providing optimal insulation with the least amount of filling. MUJI also uses natural water sourced from the Kamaishi Cave in the deep mountains of Iwate Prefecture, Japan, combined with natural skincare ingredients, to create basic skincare products. This autumn/winter, it will launch an ALL IN ONE body beauty gel series for sensitive skin and hydration, among other types. While extensively using natural materials, MUJI is also committed to adopting new materials to protect the natural “environment.” For instance, cosmetic brushes have stopped using natural animal hair and instead use polyester fibers, 37% of which are derived from plant-based raw materials. Considering the limited supply of feather resources, it has introduced non-feather down quilts made of antibacterial polyester cotton. Development also incorporates the latest technologies to ensure the practicality of the products is not compromised.

For the upcoming autumn/winter season, MUJI also offers warm outfitting suggestions. The 100% cashmere knitwear series, which achieved strong sales last year, will introduce more color options and styles this year. The wool-silk blend washable knitwear series has improved pilling issues through textile technology, allowing it to be machine washed at home just like the cashmere knitwear, making clothing maintenance much more convenient. MUJI has also enhanced the development of pant designs and cuts suitable for Asian body types, launching men’s and women’s American cotton blended denim pants in various styles, offering more fashion options. In response to the fluctuating autumn/winter temperatures in recent years, breathable and soft cotton undergarments and tops are essential items. These include affordable and easy-to-wear organic cotton T-shirts, as well as classic organic cotton flannel shirts. There are also multiple patterns available for men’s, women’s, and children’s wear, making it possible for families to dress in matching outfits.
