Xinjiang boasts unique geographical landscapes and rich ethnic culture, presenting an almost mythical allure for people from Taiwan. Among its world-renowned attractions are the "Sea of Death" Taklamakan Desert and the "Roof of the World" Pamir Plateau—destinations that are particularly challenging for adventurous travelers. To give the public a chance to uncover the mysteries of southern Xinjiang, travel agencies have launched the "Grand Hike in Xinjiang – Southern Xinjiang Adventure & Beijing Wild Great Wall" 15-day tour. This journey takes you to three major hiking destinations, where the majestic scenery is truly once-in-a-lifetime.

First held in 2001, the "Brave Taiwanese Kids Walk the World – Conquering Xinjiang’s Pamir" has been reimagined for 2021 as the thoughtfully curated 15-day "Grand Hike in Xinjiang – Southern Xinjiang Adventure & Beijing Wild Great Wall." This itinerary follows the world’s longest desert highway through the Taklamakan Desert, embraces the Kuqa Tianshan Grand Canyon, and includes a hike along the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall. Hiking segments include: the 2.8 km Kuqa Grand Canyon in Xinjiang; the 4 km Taizhong 4th Well in the Taklamakan Desert; the 4 km stretch from 161K to 165K at the Bulunkou Sand Lake in Kashgar; and the Jinshanling Wild Great Wall in Beijing. This hike opens up a healthier perspective while offering a profound experience of breathtaking landscapes.

The tour also takes you to lesser-visited but extraordinary cities such as Korla, Kuqa, Minfeng, Hotan, Kashgar, and the Pamir Plateau. In Kashgar, considered the homeland of the Uyghur people, you’ll enjoy a homestay visit and explore the bustling bazaar—one of the largest in Central Asia, attracting up to 100,000 visitors a day. These lively, fascinating scenes are like something straight out of a travel show.
