The Kashgar Old Town Scenic Area is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Kashgar Old Town Scenic Area is located in the city center of Kashgar, covering a total area of 3.6 square kilometers. The scenic area includes 18 attractions such as the core area of the old town, Id Kah Mosque, and the Gaotai residential houses. Among them, the old town is one of the largest existing earthen architectural complexes in the world, featuring crisscrossing alleys and buildings of varying heights. It is currently the only well-preserved labyrinthine urban district in China.

The Kashgar Old Town Scenic Area is located on a high cliff to the north of Kashgar city, with Jiangkugan Lane and Bulakebeixi Lane as its main thoroughfares. Covering an area of about 2 square kilometers, it is home to 2,094 households and over 10,000 residents. It is a well-preserved, maze-like urban district characterized by Islamic culture.

The Kashgar Old Town Scenic Area was once the capital of the ancient Shule Kingdom, one of the Thirty-Six Kingdoms of the Western Regions more than 2,000 years ago. It has preserved many significant historical and cultural relics, including 12 autonomous region-level and municipal-level cultural heritage sites. These mainly consist of old town alleys, Uyghur residences, and the Nine-Dragon Spring. It is a tourist attraction that integrates Uyghur history, culture, architecture, and folk customs.

This place was once the site of the royal palace of the Kara-Khanid Khanate over 1,200 years ago. Most of the residents here are descendants of the royal family and nobility of the Kara-Khanid Khanate. Visitors can experience authentic ethnic cuisine through home visits to Uyghur families, witness the customs and handicrafts of Uyghur residences firsthand, and even touch various traditional Uyghur handicrafts.
