Xining Great Buddha Temple

Xining Great Buddha Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located on West Street in Xining. Thang Rabsel, Yo Gejung, and Mar Shakya Senge, known as the “Three Sages” of the “Later Propagation Period” in Tibetan Buddhism history, traveled from Tibet to Qinghai and once built a temple for practice in what is now Jiaochang Street in Xining. All three sages passed away in Qinghai, with Yo Gejung dying in Xining.

Later, devotees greatly expanded the temple. A massive statue of the Three Sages was erected in the main hall, hence the name Great Buddha Temple. It is regarded as the ancestral site of the “Later Propagation Period” of Tibetan Buddhism. The temple enjoys great fame among China’s Tibetan, Mongolian, and other ethnic minority communities, and is deeply revered by believers.
