Cang’erhui Ecotourism Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Shanxi · Lüliang Mountains · Cang’erhui Ecotourism Economic Zone is a national-level forest park, covering a total area of 360 square kilometers. It is located in Wenshui County, Lüliang City, Shanxi Province, the hometown of Empress Wu Zetian. The area is just 80 kilometers from Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, a one-hour drive away.

The economic zone features rich forest vegetation and unique natural landscapes, as well as long-standing cultural and historical sites. Here, lush forests, murmuring streams, birdsong, fragrant flowers, and fresh air create an idyllic setting. The air quality meets national Grade I standards, the water quality reaches mineral water standards, green vegetation coverage is 92%, and forest vegetation coverage is 83%. There are over 70 species of wild animals, more than 100 types of wild medicinal herbs, over 20 kinds of wild edible greens, and around 20 varieties of green foods represented by morel mushrooms and wild wood ear fungus. Over 30 types of trees such as wild sea buckthorn, apricot, peach, walnut, and grape grow abundantly across the mountains, filling the air with fragrance all year round. Thanks to these diverse plant species, the area is known as the “Botanical Garden of North China.” Notably, it is home to the Dongyan Temple, a Buddhist temple originally built in the 10th year of the Yongping era during the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is one of the earliest Buddhist temples introduced to China, predating the White Horse Temple in Luoyang by one year. Recognized as the “First Folk Temple,” it holds significant artistic and tourism value.
