Sanjiao Town in Liulin County, Shanxi Province, is located at the boundary between Liulin and Shilou Counties, with the opposite bank of the Yellow River marking the junction of Suide and Qingjian Counties in Shaanxi Province. Hence, it has long been praised as “where the beat of drums shakes two provinces, and the crowing of a rooster startles four counties.” This area is recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as “China’s No. 1 Town for Dates” and is also home to the Mother Peak of the Three Gorges of the Yellow River Scenic Area, where the majestic spirit of the Yellow River is vividly embodied.

The Great Yellow River Gorge, Quchan Gorge, and Longquan Stone Gorge converge here. The Quchan River and Longquan Spring flow into the Yellow River from opposite sides at the same section, creating a rare geographical phenomenon—a crossroads of three rivers. Waves surge and clouds gather in a dramatic convergence. The Tujinqi area within the scenic zone features towering waves and turbulent waters that have struck fear into sailors for centuries. All vessels passing through this spot have historically chosen to detour, earning it the title “No. 1 Rapids on the Ten-Thousand-Li Yellow River.”

Naturally formed, the Mother Peak of the Yellow River stands here year-round, weathered by wind and rain. Resembling a mother lying gracefully, its features—eyes, nose, ears, and hair—are strikingly lifelike and vividly realistic, earning widespread acclaim as the “No. 1 Humanistic Wonder on the Ten-Thousand-Li Yellow River.”

The developed Mother Peak of the Three Gorges of the Yellow River Scenic Area spans 31 square kilometers, with 15 kilometers of Yellow River surfing routes—both leading the nation in Yellow River tourism. It attracts numerous visitors from across the country every day.

Sanjiao Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Liulin County. Established as Xiàsānjiāo Commune in 1958 and upgraded to a town in 1984.
