Yangtang River

Yangtang River is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Yangtang River is located in Xiaozhongdian Town, Shangri-La County, Yunnan Province, and means "riverbank where flowers gather" in Tibetan. The Yangtang River scenic area is also currently known as the Nilansha Scenic Area, managed and developed by Shangri-La Nilansha (Dreamlike) Journey Co., Ltd.

Towering snow-capped mountains stand facing each other along the banks of the Yangtang River, with colorful meadows and herds of cattle and sheep; the river water is clear and pure, Tibetan villages are unique, and the pastoral scenery is beautiful—the entire river feels like a dreamlike utopia. The scenic area uses cultural elements such as white stupas, cultural stones, Mani stones, Mani piles, prayer flags, waterwheel prayer wheels, altars, sky burial platforms, Tibetan wooden houses, and ethnic handicrafts as landscape features. It showcases Shangri-La through activities such as bamboo rafting, yak boat rides, Tibetan song and dance performances, and equestrian shows. With Tibetan Buddhism as the backdrop and Tibetan folk prayer culture and local customs as the theme, the area offers rich cultural tourism resources that significantly enhance the cultural depth of the scenic zone.

The tourist area combines Tibetan cultural industries with tourism, integrates yak boat rides with sightseeing experiences, and blends traditional sightseeing with leisure vacations to meet people’s growing desires and needs for sightseeing, adventure, wellness, and leisure.

The scenic area boasts enchanting landscapes and is home to many Tibetan residents, offering a rich tapestry of ethnic customs. Its natural ecological scenery and cultural tourism resources are diverse. The yak boats used for sightseeing in the area (see DVD) are specially designed watercraft with patented technology. The unique yak-shaped hull gives visitors the extraordinary sensation of riding a yak while gliding through the heavenly river.
