2. Puli Paper Dome Church
Located in Puli, this beautiful paper church has an interesting backstory. The structure, designed to be easily dismantled and relocated, first appeared in Japan after the Kobe earthquake, where it helped comfort many people during a difficult time. Carrying that enduring spirit, it crossed the ocean to Puli’s Taomi Village, which was severely affected by the 921 Earthquake. It brought warmth to Taiwan. Located in the center of Tunghai University in Taichung, the Luce Memorial Chapel was donated by Henry Luce, the founder of Time magazine, in memory of his father. In fact, apart from the chapel, he also contributed funds to many other constructions within Tunghai University, making significant contributions to the school. Located in the Tamshui Church, a city-designated historic site in New Taipei City, it is just a 15-minute walk from Tamshui MRT Station, making it very convenient to reach.
