Nongla Wu Village
Nongla Wu Village, located within the Nongla Forest Sea, is an ecological gem on the planned Great Shangri-La Tourism Circuit.
Nongla is also a place that “makes people not want to leave home.” Nongla Wu Village is over 20 kilometers from Nongla Town and about 5 kilometers from National Highway 318, making it relatively secluded. It lies within a valley that is 10 kilometers wide and over 20 kilometers long. The scenic area includes grasslands and mountainous terrain. Along the Demu Cold Spring River within the valley, there are five villages — Gongbo, Bomi, Monba, Lhoba, and Deng — each brimming with the unique cultural flavors of their respective ethnic groups, hence the name “Wu Village” (Five Villages).
The scenic area boasts a harmonious blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. The Nongla Flower Sea bursts with vibrant colors and a dazzling array of blooms; the undulating Nongla Forest Sea is a magnificent sight. Each of the five villages showcases distinct customs and traditions. Visitors can stay in different villages on different nights, enjoying varied local cuisines and cultural experiences each evening. There are also Tibetan mastiffs kept to guard the courtyards and help prevent nighttime intrusions by wildlife such as bears or snow leopards. In winter, enjoy skiing; in summer, escape the heat; in spring, admire the vast fields of azaleas; and in autumn, take in the richly colored forests.
The predecessor of the famous Demu Monastery, “Lakaloselin,” is also located at the heart of this scenic area. Within the area, visitors can also admire some of China’s most stunning peaks, including Mount Namcha Barwa, the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, and Mount Jialabailei.
