Tainan hotels extend warmth in disaster relief effort: Five-star amenities help affected residents celebrate the New Year

The Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau stated on the 6th that the strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake that occurred early this morning caused collapses or tilting of several buildings in Tainan. The city government promptly established an emergency response center to handle related disaster relief efforts. Amid the rescue operations, in addition to support pouring in from various cities and counties, major hotels and restaurants in Tainan have also united to provide tangible assistance to affected residents, hoping to help them celebrate the New Year in comfort.

The Lunar New Year is traditionally a time for family reunions, but due to the collapse or tilting of some buildings caused by the strong quake, affected individuals have had to be relocated and are unable to enjoy a comfortable holiday. As such, major hotels in Tainan, led byGrand Formosa Regent Tainan, who set an example by offering 10 rooms each day from February 6 to 8 for use by the city government’s disaster response center, were soon joined by other five-star hotels such as Tayih Landis Tainan, Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Tainan, and Taiwan Sugar Chang Yung-Fa Foundation Tainan, which also confirmed available room numbers and provided heartfelt accommodation support.

In addition, hotels such as Hong Sheng Xin Hotel, China Southern Hotel, Royal Eagle Castle, and Windsor Motel Rende Branch also indicated they could provide rooms from February 6 to 7 for unified use by the city government. The Slow Travel Tainan Guting Store posted a heartwarming message on its official website saying, “The building may have fallen, but Tainan will stand back up!” Yijia Hotel also posted, saying that the most beautiful sight in Taiwan is its people, expressing their willingness to make a small effort for Taiwan, and both stated they would offer free accommodations to affected residents from February 6 to 7.

Tainan Silks Club Hotel stated it would mobilize staff to donate blood and deliver food and supplies to the disaster area for use by those in need. Additionally, Hong Pin Beef, located near Yongda Road (No. 288, Da’an Street), in appreciation of the hardworking rescuers on-site, posted on its official fan page that it would provide free beef soup to relief workers. Restaurants in Tainan such as Wang Steak, TASTY, and TAO Restaurant said they have prepared rice balls and hot soup at the Yongkang Kunshan Activity Center, hoping to help warm up affected residents and rescue workers. They have also organized teams to distribute rice balls at collapsed building sites to help relief workers and families replenish their strength. It is believed that many businesses have also quietly contributed manpower and resources to the disaster relief efforts.
