Mili Tang is a highland pasture, located about 6 kilometers from the Shudu Lake scenic area and reachable by car in just over ten minutes. During this drive, you’ll cross a mountain ridge, traveling through a stretch of pristine forest. Upon getting off at the Mili Tang stop, there’s an observation deck. Descend just five or six meters from the platform, and you’ll find yourself truly in the midst of the grassland.

In spring or the height of summer, under the vast blue sky, the pasture stretches out like a smooth green silk, with herds of cattle and sheep scattered across it like pearls. Some are diligently grazing on the lush grass, peacefully enjoying the bounty nature has scattered here. Others move slowly and leisurely, occasionally letting out soft moos, as if sharing their deep attachment to this land with visitors. Still others strike a very professional pose, posing for photos with tourists, freezing these beautiful moments forever in the lens.

This lush pasture is also home to the herders. A few hundred meters in front of the observation deck, you can see several wooden houses known as “herding sheds.” In spring, summer, and autumn, they serve as shelters from wind and rain and places for the herders to rest. But in winter, the herders migrate with their livestock to lower altitudes, leaving the sheds vacant until the warm sunlight of the following spring returns. At mealtimes, thin wisps of smoke rise from the rooftops of the herding sheds, silently calling the herders back home. The blue sky, white clouds, pasture, grazing animals, and black herding sheds... together, they form a stunning picture.

If you visit in autumn, the scenery remains similar, but autumn drapes the grassland in a subtle golden hue. The undulating land is covered with golden spruces, bright-leaved rhododendron shrubs and alpine oak thickets in green, and the crimson forests of large-fruited red firs. Visiting during this time, you’ll find the colors even richer yet harmonious, all blending seamlessly into nature.

In winter, the area turns yellow and withered or is blanketed in snow. When you visit then, you may sense a mood of desolation and bleakness—but this is only temporary. Beneath the surface, new life is brewing. Grass seeds and other plants are slowly germinating, storing energy for even more vigorous growth next year. Thinking of this, you shouldn’t feel sorrowful, but rather moved by the resilience and enduring vitality of life.
