Shangri-La Scripture Printing House

Shangri-La Scripture Printing House is the largest of its kind in the Tibetan region of Yunnan, dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and inheritance of traditional Tibetan culture. Located in the picturesque village of Xiage, nestled by mountains and water, it is the final stop on a visit to Pudacuo National Park.

The printing house showcases the original woodblock printing process for 108 volumes of the Kangyur, 203 volumes of the Tengyur, and 162,000 carved blocks along with 6,000 art panels from the original texts of eight major Tibetan Buddhist sects. The printed materials cover Buddhist scriptures and philosophy, astronomy and geography, political economy, Tibetan medicine, history, literature, music, fine arts, and craft technology, all of which hold significant academic value. It serves as an encyclopedia of Tibetan art and culture, largely preserving and promoting the essence of Tibetan cultural heritage.

In addition to viewing Tibetan block printing, visitors can also explore the village of Xiage. This Tibetan natural village blends natural and cultural landscapes, featuring typical traditional Tibetan residential architecture. Here, you can experience Tibetan lifestyle and production customs, immerse yourself in Tibetan Buddhist culture, food culture, and traditional folk handicraft culture.
