The Li Family Ancestral Hall in Tengchong is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Li Family Ancestral Hall was built in 1920, initiated by Li Yuehai, the 17th-generation descendant of the Li family (father of Ai Siqi), and took six years to complete. The ancestral hall is located between Shuidui Village and the Liu Family Ancestral Hall, covering an area of about 4,000 square meters. Backed by a hillside and facing the Lai Feng Mountain, it was constructed along the mountain terrain, presenting a grand and majestic sight. It is composed of the main hall, side wing rooms, a second gate, a front courtyard, the main gate, and two moon gates. There are over a hundred stone steps leading from the road up to the nine-tiered platform of the hall. Halfway up the stairs, you will find two stone archways. Further up are the terrace and then the magnificent three-bay, memorial-archway-style main gate. Passing through the front courtyard, you’ll enter the main hall and the surrounding triple corridors with double-eaved hip-and-gable roofed wing rooms. It is known for its grand layout, high elevation, wide views, and beautiful scenery. The Li Family Ancestral Hall was the latest to be built among the ancestral halls, starting construction in the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920) and completed in the fourteenth year. All the timber used was high-quality catalpa wood from Tengchong, making it the most impressive in scale and presence among the Heshun ancestral halls. The pond in front of the hall was newly built in the 22nd year by descendants Shengluo Zu (Chun, Rong, Gui, Sen) and Ji (Yan, Wen). On the pond is a small seal script stone engraving by Li Yuehai, the first Border Pacification Commissioner of Yunnan Province during the Republic of China, inscribed in the autumn of the guiyou year (1933) with the words “Cultivate Virtue, Honor Your Ancestors,” which remains well-preserved to this day. The stone carvings on the two side arches of the main gate are also intact. The front side features Li Yuehai’s running script characters “Ascending the Dragon” and “Gazing at the Phoenix,” while the back has Li Zhi’s cursive script “Warp and Weft” and “Descendants,” still faintly visible.
