Tengchong Heishui River (Heiyu River)

The Heishui River, also known as the Heiyu River, is not a large scenic area and can be explored in about an hour. It is located right after exiting the loop trail of the Columnar Joint Geological Park.

Though it looks black, the water is actually very clear — the dark appearance is mainly due to the effect of the stones in the river and the light.

The Heishui River is a form of water that flows out from the earth's surface under the influence of lava. It is called the Heishui River because thousands of small black fish emerge from its outlet every summer and autumn.

The Heishui River features many rocky streams that look like little waterfalls to me. Along the way, there are vendors selling fruit and grilled “black fish.” However, I felt that, for the sake of ecological balance, fewer of these black fish should be caught. I didn’t eat any myself but instead bought one and released it back into the river.

The water is green, and there are many rocks. On the trees by the stream, playful little monkeys can be seen. Sitting here and daydreaming, with greenery all around, the spring breeze and sunshine quickly melt away the negativity from a regular workday.
