• Tengchong Museum serves as a carrier of regional, historical, and ethnic cultural heritage, as well as a window for friends from both China and abroad to learn about the history and culture of Tengchong.

Attraction Introduction

Tengchong Museum is located behind the Sanqiao Cultural Square in Tengchong, adjacent to the Tengchong Library and the Tengchong Mass Art Center. It has a total exhibition area of 2,207 square meters, consisting of five exhibition halls: the Preface Hall, History Hall, Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall, Calligraphy and Painting Hall, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. The museum displays over 760 sets of cultural relics (artifacts) and more than 310 images. The most noteworthy sections are the History Hall and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall.

The History Hall provides a relatively comprehensive introduction to the development of Tengchong City, including a detailed account of the ancient city of Tengchong, which was referred to as the "First City at the Far Frontier" by the famous traveler Xu Xiake of that time. Also particularly engaging is the exhibition on the horse caravan routes and jade trade of modern Tengchong. A combination of physical artifacts and images vividly showcases the economic prosperity of Tengchong during that period and revisits scenes of locals traveling along the ancient border trade routes. The Intangible Cultural Heritage section mainly introduces the pottery-making techniques of the Tengchong Bowl Kiln, the handmade papermaking craft from Jietou in Tengchong, traditional jade processing methods in Tengchong, and Tengchong paper-horse folk art.
