Wanshan National Mine Park
China’s Mercury Capital · Wanshan National Mine Park is one of the 28 national mine parks approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2005. With a total investment of over 20 million yuan, construction began in late April 2009, and the park was officially unveiled and opened at 8:58 a.m. on October 28 of the same year. Covering an area of 105 square kilometers, the park mainly centers around the mercury mining heritage of the urban area of Wanshan, with the core scenic area spanning approximately 5 square kilometers.
Attractions in the park include: the Mine Park Monument, the Mercury Capital Museum, the Soviet Experts' Building, the Heidongzi and Xiangu Dong ancient mining sites, and the "Underground Labyrinth" scenic area in Pit No. 2.
Wanshan National Mine Park is a concept of a “broad-sense park.” Whether it’s the Mercury Capital Museum, the ancient mining sites, or the mysterious wonders of the underground tunnels, what is presented to us is the grand historical narrative of the profound mercury industrial civilization deeply rooted in the Wanshan Special District.
