Zhusha Ancient Town (Wanshan National Mining Park) is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Zhusha Ancient Town in Wanshan District was formerly the national 4A-level scenic spot — Wanshan National Mining Park. Located in the core area of Wanshan Town, Wanshan District, the ancient town covers an area of 5 square kilometers, with an extended area reaching 105 square kilometers. In July 2015, Jiangxi Shangrao Jiyang Group was introduced to invest 2 billion yuan, aiming to develop the site according to 5A-level scenic standards, and to jointly develop it with the Yelang Valley Scenic Area as an integrated area. The project highlights the unique cinnabar culture and historical significance, transforming waste into value by renovating and utilizing existing ruins and cultural relics. The plan is to spend 3 to 5 years creating a premium model of national industrial culture and a one-of-a-kind mining heritage site, establishing China’s first mountainous industrial civilization-themed mining leisure nostalgia town. This will form a “golden triangle” tourism layout together with Zhusha Ancient Town, Fanjing Mountain, and Fenghuang Ancient Town. The scenic area boasts a long history and culture. It was approved for establishment by the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2005; in May 2006, it was listed by the State Council as part of the sixth batch of “Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level”; in September 2012, it was included in the “Tentative List of China’s World Cultural Heritage” by the National Cultural Heritage Administration; in 2013, it was designated as a “Guizhou Provincial Science Education Base” by the Guizhou Provincial Association for Science and Technology and the Guizhou Provincial Department of Science and Technology; in May 2014, it was rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction; in April 2015, it was listed by the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government as part of the fifth batch of “Patriotic Education Bases.” The development of Zhusha Ancient Town is divided into three phases. The first phase, with an investment of 500 million yuan, includes the construction of a glass walkway, the scenic area gate, squares, a cinema, museum renovation, cave lighting, a conference center, gym, café, mall, hotel, and an O2O online-offline display and sales center for cinnabar products. This phase is now officially in operation. The second phase, with an investment of 1 billion yuan, includes the construction of a nostalgia town, Cinnabar Grand View Garden, Cloud Top Terrace, cliff swimming pool, glass suspension bridge, and zip line. The third phase, with an investment of 500 million yuan, focuses on developing the valley floor, primarily featuring water amusement projects at the Shibakeng Reservoir, and includes the construction of a high-end resort hotel, lavender garden, and racetrack. The ancient town promotes cinnabar crafts, catering, hotels, and other service-oriented projects to accelerate the transition and employment of former mercury miners, address historical legacy issues, boost rural tourism, and promote all-for-one tourism. Additionally, a number of public welfare positions have been created to alleviate employment pressure on former mercury miners due to limited skill sets.
