Site of the Fengxi Conference
In 1932, the Third Red Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army withdrew from Honghu, enduring great hardships. In June 1934, they advanced into Fengxiangxi, where on June 19, an historically significant meeting—the 0Xiang-E-Xi Central Bureau Fengxiangxi Conference—was held here. Following the conference, the 0Qian-Dong Revolutionary Base was established, and a peasant revolutionary movement was launched to establish political power, overthrow local tyrants, and redistribute land. The influence of Wang Ming’s leftist opportunism on the Third Red Army was criticized, political organs and Party and League organizations were restored, and a victorious rendezvous was achieved with the vanguard unit of the 0First Front Red Army—led by Ren Bishi, Xiao Ke, and others—the Sixth Red Army Corps. This led to the formation of the Second and Sixth Red Armies, making an indelible contribution to covering the successful strategic transfer of the Central Red Army’s Long March. After the founding of the People’s Republic, the government established the Fengxiangxi Conference Site Memorial Hall here, with the name inscribed by Liao Hansheng, then Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The hall houses abundant historical materials and photographs. On the walls of the site, several slogans written in cinnabar by the Red Army at the time remain clearly visible. A majestic Fengxiangxi Conference Monument was also erected. Additionally, cultural relics such as the former sites of the Third Red Army’s headquarters, political department, staff department, hospital, as well as the Seventh and Ninth Red Army Divisions were better defined and protected, remaining relatively well-preserved to this day with high ornamental value. To protect these revolutionary relics, the Dejiang County Party Committee and government designated the Fengxiangxi Conference Site as a county-level cultural relics protection unit and erected protective markers. In 1980, a stone memorial monument was built on the hill north of the site. The conference site and the monument were jointly designated as provincial-level cultural relics protection units in February 1982. In 2006, the conference site and nine other former Red Army sites—including the army headquarters and political department—were proclaimed national-level cultural relics protection units by the State Council.
