Introduction: The county town of Congjiang is divided in two by the Duliu River, with only one street on each side. The east bank is the old town, while the west bank is dominated by new buildings. There’s not much to see within the county itself, except for the dragon boat races and the big market during the Dragon Boat Festival. However, the ethnic villages under Congjiang’s jurisdiction feature crisscrossing bluestone paths, flower bridges and drum towers that complement each other, stilted wooden houses standing in close rows, waterwheels and millstones turning leisurely, and the sounds of chickens and dogs echoing back and forth. Being here offers a truly unique experience. Therefore, Congjiang County is definitely an ideal base for visiting the surrounding ethnic villages. Transportation: You can only get to Congjiang from Rongjiang or Liping by minibus. Although there are direct buses from Kaili to Congjiang, you usually have to transfer in Rongjiang, and they only run in the morning. Minibuses from Rongjiang to Congjiang run until 18:00, but it’s better to go a bit earlier. The fare is 16 yuan. There are also buses from Liping to Congjiang, but they are less frequent. The road from Rongjiang to Congjiang is newly built along the river, with good conditions and even better scenery along the way. The most common means of transport within the county is the three-wheeled motorcycle. It costs 1 yuan to cross the river and 0.5 yuan if you don’t.
