For thousands of years, fellow Miao people in Xijiang have farmed at sunrise and rested at sunset, cultivating vast terraced fields upstream of the village, forming a farming culture integrated with pastoral scenery.
Walking along the path, although the heavy rain made the river water murky, the mountain mist made me feel as if I were in a fairyland. Coupled with the sight of wooden stilted Miao-style houses nestled among the hills, choosing to walk was absolutely the right decision.
Located in the heart of the Miao region, this two-story building showcases the history and culture of the Miao ethnic group. It is recommended to spend 1–2 hours here for the full experience.
Friendly reminder: a second ticket check is required for entry here, so be sure to keep the ticket purchased at the entrance.
Xijiang Viewing Platform
The night in Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village has a unique charm.
Shouzhai Village
I unexpectedly spotted a “white dragon horse”—it poked its head out and looked at me, haha. Later, I learned that most of the stilted houses here have three stories.
Along the way, I also saw several of the region’s unique dogs: the “Xiashi Dog,” lazily lying in the sun.
Miao cuisine is characterized by sour and spicy flavors. The sour soup is made by fermenting rice broth or tofu water in an earthen jar for 3–5 days, after which it can be used to cook meat, fish, or vegetables. Be sure to drink a sip of the sour soup before eating the fish—it’s refreshingly tangy and spicy, perfect for whetting your appetite. The fish, stewed in the sour soup, becomes even more flavorful. Paired with locally brewed rice wine, it’s exceptionally delicious.
Must-Try Dish 2: Hairy TofuThe food in Qianhu Miao Village is truly endless in variety. The dishes combine the spiciness of Guizhou cuisine with the sour flavors unique to the Miao people—don’t miss out.
Sleeping in the Miao Village
I stayed in a room on the third floor of the homestay. Its duplex structure is perfect for accommodating a whole family.
The second floor features a skylight design, providing excellent natural light. There are also side windows for ventilation.
Oh, Miao Village, you are truly beautiful.
On the entire second floor of the homestay, there is also a viewing area.
Goodbye, Qianhu Miao Village.
Looking forward to meeting you again next time.
