Dong Village Drum Tower

The drum tower is a uniquely styled building in the Dong villages. Crafted from fir wood with mortise-and-tenon joints, its central pillars rise from the ground into the air, while horizontal beams crisscross in a precise interlocking pattern. Built using the principle of the lever, the structure is supported layer upon layer. The entire drum tower is made entirely of wood, without a single nail or rivet. Thanks to its tight and sturdy construction, it can remain intact and upright for hundreds of years. The drum tower serves as a central gathering place where elderly Dong villagers teach songs, young people sing, children learn, and folk artists compose and pass down Dong operas.
