The Ten-Mile Ancient Gorge of Pingliang

The Ten-Mile Ancient Gorge of Pingliang is located in Pingliang Village, Dafengdong Township, Kaili, about 50 kilometers from the city center. The Chong'an River, which originates from the mountain caves along the western part of Mashi, enters the ancient gorge right in front of Pingliang Village. The gorge is flanked by steep cliffs on both sides, creating a majestic atmosphere. The river inside the gorge flows swiftly with surging waves, stretching over ten li in length—hence its other name, the Ten-Mile Ancient Gorge. The quaint and picturesque Pingliang Village is built on the mountainside by the river. Due to the significant drop in the riverbed, the water rushes through Shimenkan, where it suddenly churns violently before surging into the ancient gorge.
