Located 30 kilometers from Jiuzhou Ancient Town, Zhujia Mountain Primeval Forest is the source of the Yanghe River. Its main peak, Matou Mountain, resembles a horse’s head and stands at an elevation of 1,357 meters. From the summit, you can overlook vast expanses of pristine ecological forest at the border of Huangping and Weng’an counties. The surrounding area also features seven peaks over 1,000 meters in elevation: Shamading, Qichangmi, Yangnaoke, Gulaomen, Triangle Village, Chicken Comb Ridge, and Sun Mountain. These are collectively praised as the “Seven Stars Holding the Moon.” On clear mornings after rain, the forest is shrouded in vast, boundless sea of clouds. When the sun rises above the mountain, beams of morning light bathe the land in radiant beauty, creating an unforgettable scene. Zhujia Mountain is the only largely intact and expansive evergreen broadleaf forest ecosystem in central Guizhou with well-preserved subtropical forest characteristics.

The forest is home to 417 species of woody plants, including nationally protected species such as the Chinese fir, yew, fragrant fruit tree, and beech, making it a natural gene bank of flora. It also hosts nationally protected animals such as the Lady Amherst’s pheasant, large Indian civet, and small Indian civet. In the dense woods and streams, you can often find the rare and protected Chinese giant salamander (also known as the baby fish). Zhujia Mountain Primeval Forest is a treasure trove of medicinal plants, fiddlehead ferns, and edible fungi, and serves as an ideal destination for scientific research, exploration, jungle adventures, and immersive nature discovery.
