Suiyang has many basins. Of Guizhou Province’s 19 grain fields larger than 10,000 mu, four are located in Suiyang County. These four vast fields, stretching from south to north along Provincial Highway 207 through Puchang Town, Yangchuan Town, and Wangcao Town, form the renowned “Northern Guizhou Granary.” The agricultural production here represents the highest level of agriculture in Northern Guizhou, serving not only as a model of stable and high-yield farming but also as an exemplary case of sightseeing agriculture and ecological agriculture. This fertile land once caught the attention of Chairman Mao Zedong. In 1955, he wrote a brilliant “editorial note” praising the political work of three agricultural cooperatives—the Morning Light, Nongyuan, and Yangjiazhai—on the Wangcao Ten-Thousand-Mu Field. This beautiful land of fish and rice has also hosted visits from national leaders. From January 16 to 17, 1986, Comrade [name redacted], then Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Committee, inspected the Puchang Ten-Thousand-Mu Field in Suiyang and later delivered an important speech at a meeting with county, district, and bureau-level officials in the county Party committee meeting room. He said, “Suiyang has three strengths: good conditions, a good situation, and good prospects.” He also commended the cadres of Suiyang, saying they “got down to business and played the leading role in grain production. The two flagship products, rapeseed and flue-cured tobacco, also achieved good yields even in a year of natural disasters” (quoted from the transcript of Comrade [name redacted]’s speech in Suiyang based on recordings). On December 20, 1992, General Secretary Jiang Zemin visited Gaofangzi Township on the Puchang Ten-Thousand-Mu Field. When Zhang Renmin, the Secretary of the Suiyang County Committee, reported to him about the difficulty farmers faced in selling rapeseed, General Secretary Jiang humorously replied, “Ah, is that so? Then when I go back to Beijing, I’ll advertise for you—for free, no commission.”

In spring, the rapeseed flowers across several ten-thousand-mu fields bloom competitively, stretching from Gaofangzi in the south to Maojiapu in the north, forming a hundred-mile rapeseed flower corridor. Among the blossoms, bees buzz and butterflies flutter; within the fragrant expanse, swallows chirp softly, and turtledoves sing in the clear sky. Along the flower sea, the green of the mountains, the emerald of the bamboo forests, the red of peach blossoms, and the white of plum blossoms blend into the landscape… Rural children emerge from the golden sea of flowers hidden among the rapeseed, their clothes dusted with bright yellow pollen. This is a fragrant hundred-mile scenic wonder in Poetry Town, and the most magnificent ocean of rapeseed flowers on the Guizhou Plateau.

Puchang Town: Puchang Town is located in the southwest of Suiyang County. Geographic coordinates: 107°01′–107°06′ east longitude, 27°49′–28°03′ north latitude. To the west, it borders Banqiao, Sidu, Gaoping, and Jintang towns (townships) in Huichuan District. To the north, it neighbors Jianba Town, and to the south, it faces Huichuan District and Tuánzé, among others. It is 26 kilometers from Zunyi City and 10 kilometers from the county seat.
