Boya Gallery Museum
The Boya Gallery Museum is a national AA-level tourist attraction.
The Boya Gallery Museum is located on North Street in Suiyang County, adjacent to Shihouse. It was built by Mr. Li Fabiao, an entrepreneur from Suiyang, with a total investment of 20 million yuan. With the mission of “selecting the elegance of China and preserving the soul of the Chinese nation,” the Boya Gallery provides a vibrant space to showcase the splendid flowers of human science, culture, and education, as well as a stage for the people of Suiyang and Zunyi to express their refined, elegant, and praiseworthy character and virtues of benevolence and righteousness. The museum has three floors and a total of 15 large exhibition halls, showcasing a grand scale. The main hall features the “Dragon Rise Huaxia Hall,” accompanied by the long scroll “Kunlun Ode: Kunmo Vividly Depicted,” symbolizing that Kunlun is the origin of the dragon veins of China and the world. Halls 1–4 are the “Poetry Town Suiyang Hall,” narrating the long history of Suiyang from 25 million years ago to the present. The “Dove Tree”—a relict plant dove tree, a replica of a saber-toothed elephant fossil, and ancient rock paintings from Yanhui Cave depict the long-standing civilization of Suiyang; the Yin Zhen Lecture Hall, the establishment of Suiyang County in the seventh year of Emperor Yang of Sui’s Daye era, the Er’Ran brothers and Fishing City, and the Red Army in Suiyang all showcase the origins, history, and notable figures of Suiyang culture. The central hall on the second floor is the “World Peace Sacred Poetry Hall,” accompanied by the long scroll “Ten Thousand Horses Galloping,” displaying images of heads of state from 107 countries and the UN Secretary-General, along with their inscribed peace poetry. Halls 5–6 are the “Traces of Time” old photographs and famous handwritten letters and manuscripts exhibition hall. The fourth hall on the second floor features a wall exhibition highlighting the profound richness of Suiyang’s poetic culture, with murals depicting Chen Zi’ang and Chen Zi’ang Ancestral Hall, Li Bai and Huai Bai Hall, Bai Juyi and Bai Family Temple, Liu Zongyuan and Ruxi Academy, Wang Zuofu’s painting “Sighing in the Famous Garden,” Liao Gongxian’s “Gazing at Misty Rain,” Zheng Zhen’s “Arrival at Luoshui,” and the young Li Shuchang, reflecting Suiyang’s deep-rooted connections with numerous literati. The southern wall bamboo slip exhibition displays popular verses by Suiyang poets. Halls 7–8 on the third floor are dedicated to famous person displays. The central hall on the third floor is the Chinese Academicians’ Maxims on Scholarship Handwriting Exhibition Hall, accompanied by the long scroll “Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea.” Halls 9–10 are the Famous Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Hall. Floors one to two feature Halls 11–12, showcasing “The Vicissitudes of Si Chazhai,” mainly presenting the customs and folk life of rural northern Guizhou, especially Suiyang, along with cultural artifacts from Shatan.
The Boya Gallery Museum is hailed as a highlight project in the construction of spiritual civilization in western China. The name “Boya Gallery” was inscribed by the renowned Chinese calligrapher Qi Dong, the couplet on the main gate, “Selecting the Elegance of China and Preserving the Soul of the Chinese Nation,” was written by the late Chinese poetry master Zang Kejia, and the plaque “Boya Gallery” above the main building was inscribed by the celebrated Chinese poet He Jingzhi.
