Hongfeng Lake is a national scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Hongfeng Lake Scenic Area is located in the western suburbs of Guiyang and is the first stop on the golden western tourism route of Guizhou. The scenic area spans a planned area of 200 square kilometers and is a national key scenic spot that integrates plateau lake views, karst landforms, and ethnic minority culture.

Hongfeng Lake is a typical karst plateau lake, dotted with over 170 large and small islands. The mountains around Hongfeng Lake are either majestic or graceful. Looking around the lake, you see rolling hills and seamless connections between water and mountain. Boating on the lake, you’ll find the mountains shift with the water and the water wraps around the mountains. There are towering gorges, secluded bays, flocks of gulls soaring, and fish leaping in shallow waters. Hiking through the mountains, you’ll be serenaded by birdsong, shaded by dense woods — an ideal eco-tourism destination. Hongfeng Lake is also home to countless natural caves, creating the marvelous sight of “mountains with lakes, lakes with islands, islands with caves, and caves with lakes,” especially the cave clusters in the General’s Bay area, which are particularly famous.

Ethnic minorities such as the Miao, Buyi, and Yi have lived around Hongfeng Lake for generations, making ethnic culture a vital part of the tourism experience here. In 1991, the Dong and Miao Village of the Hongfeng Lake Ethnic Village was opened to the public, becoming one of the earliest ethnic villages built within a national scenic area in China for ethnic cultural tourism. Later, the Miao Village and Buyi Village were also established. After more than ten years of development, ethnic culture has become the most vibrant aspect of Hongfeng Lake tourism. The Hongfeng Lake Ethnic Village has also become an important window showcasing the customs and culture of Guizhou’s ethnic minorities.

After twenty years of construction and management, Hongfeng Lake Scenic Area has established a resource protection system for its scenic spots. Strict legal protections have been implemented for forest vegetation, lake water bodies, and geological features. This highly effective preservation work has laid a solid foundation for the sustainable use of resources. According to the “Hongfeng Lake Scenic Area Master Plan,” over ten scenic zones have been developed, including Dichenguan, Guanjingshan, Dongmiao Chong, Enyuan, and General’s Bay, along with dozens of open attractions, earning fame both domestically and abroad.

The twenty years of construction and development of Hongfeng Lake Scenic Area have received care and attention from leaders at all levels and all sectors of society. - , Hu Jintao, - , - , - , and other Party and state leaders have visited Hongfeng Lake and provided important guidance for its management. At the beginning of the new century, with large-scale ecological protection and infrastructure projects, the appearance of the scenic area has been completely renewed. Twenty years of expansion have forged the glory Hongfeng Lake enjoys today. This pearl of the plateau, Hongfeng Lake, will shine even more brilliantly.

Transportation

1. A tourist shuttle bus from Riverside Park in Guiyang can take you to the scenic area in just over 20 minutes.

2. Take a bus to Qingzhen from the social passenger transport stations on Yan’an West Road or Shanlin Road. Buses run every 30 minutes from 8:00 to 17:00, with a fare of 5 RMB. After arriving in Qingzhen, take a special transfer bus to Hongfeng Lake, which costs 1 RMB.
