Crazy Festival Time: The 99th Taitung Harvest Festival Kicks Off
The Taitung County Government has scheduled the annual Harvest Festivals across various townships and cities to begin on July 2, officially marking the start of a series of Indigenous New Year celebrations in the region.
The Harvest Festivals will begin on July 2 with a sea ceremony hosted by the Kavalan tribe in Changbin Township, continuing through late August. A total of 146 events will take place, each lasting between two to eight days. The annual Harvest Festival is also the best time for both domestic and international tourists to visit Taitung to experience Indigenous culture and savor traditional Indigenous cuisine.

In addition to the Harvest Festivals, there are several other significant events in the county, including the “Makapahay” Cultural Tourism Festival at the Taitung City Hall starting July 17, the Toroko Harvest Festival of the Eastern Rukai people in Dongxing Tribe, Beinan Township on July 17, and the Kadavu Bunun Harvest Festival in Taitung City on July 14. These are notable events worth attending, alongside the Harvest Festivals, for both locals and international visitors.

Regarding the Harvest Festivals organized by various Indigenous groups in Taitung County, the county government has compiled schedules from each village and tribe, promoting them online and through posters. It has also planned tour packages, cultural experience summer camps, and whale-watching activities to provide convenient reference information for residents and tourists. Please note that some Indigenous ceremonies may have specific taboos, so visitors should familiarize themselves in advance.
