The Ruins of the Eight Trigrams Formation from the Three Kingdoms Period is a cultural tourism attraction.

The ruins of the Eight Trigrams Formation are located southwest of Mimu Town in Qingbaijiang District. It is said that Zhuge Liang used this site to study military tactics and train his soldiers. According to ancient texts: “The Eight Trigrams Formation is modeled after the Eight Trigrams to define positions, shaped by terrain to establish structure, and represents the discipline of an army. Zhuge Liang, through his studies, mastered all its subtleties.” Additionally, the *Inscription on the Eight Trigrams Formation Monument* states: “Zhuge Liang’s Eight Trigrams Formation had two sites in Shu—one at Yong’an Palace in Kuizhou and one in Mimu Town, Xindu.” (Mimu Town was originally part of Xindu County.) The site now only has six remaining earthen mounds, and the grandeur of the past has completely vanished. In 1981, the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government announced it as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.

The ruins of the Eight Trigrams Formation are situated southwest of Mimu Town. Enclosed by exquisite stone railings over several hundred square meters, you will find the only six surviving earthen mounds of the formation nationwide, all neatly arranged within an area of less than 100 square meters. Each mound is less than two meters high, similar in size, evenly proportioned, and conical in shape, scattered among bamboo groves. Three of the mounds have intact bases, while the other three have been damaged and reduced to half-mounds. Recently renovated fence pillars made of natural stone are exquisitely carved with scenes depicting the Three Kingdoms era. In front of the mounds, a stone stele inscribed with the *Song of the Eight Trigrams Formation* by Li Diaoyuan of the Qing Dynasty has been re-erected. A five-meter protective zone has been established around each mound, with visible remnants of demolished structures in between. Standing here and reflecting, one can’t help but imagine the scene of Zhuge Liang drilling troops and arranging formations in those days.
