Nanshi Site (Second Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic Age

Address: 10 km northwest of Yicheng County, in Nanshi Village, Lizhai Town

Area: 1300×1400 meters. Due to years of mountain floods, farmland leveling, and soil extraction by villagers, exposed ash layers, ash pits, and cultural relics can be found everywhere in the gullies and field-edge cliffs within the site area.

In October 1979, partial relics were investigated and cleared, with excavated items mainly including pottery and stone tools. The pottery is predominantly gray clay pottery with sandy admixture as a secondary type. The decorative patterns are mainly rope impressions, followed by plain polished pottery and a few with added appliqué designs, “S”-shaped patterns, etc. Artifact types include li tripods, ? , ? small vessels, ding tripods, gui vessels, zun vessels, jue vessels, dou vessels, and more. Among them, there are also black pottery and sand-tempered pottery.

Judging from the collected and cleared cultural relics, the site includes both Longshan Culture and Dongxiafeng-type culture, with the Longshan Culture being more abundant.
