Suining Lotus Lake (Mazitan Reservoir), located in Baima Town, Anju District, Suining City, Sichuan Province, lies on the upper reaches of Bai'an River in the Qiongjiang River basin. The hub's geographic coordinates range from longitude 105°9′22″ to 105°15′30″ and latitude 30°22′30″ to 30°27′32″.

Mazitan Reservoir is 53 km away from Suining City. It gets its name from the countless tiny holes on the shoals, which resemble freckles on a human face. It is 5 km from Baima Town. The reservoir is a national medium-sized irrigation facility for farmland, stretching approximately 28 km in length within the reservoir area. The water body spans towns including Baima, Zhongxin, Buyun, and Lanjiang, covering an area of 12,000 mu. The reservoir area extends about 28 km in length, with a coral-like water surface featuring hundreds of branches and forks, earning it the reputation of a “water maze,” which is quite unique. There are over ten islands entirely surrounded by water in the reservoir, while both banks of the reservoir area feature beautiful scenery with lush forests, birdsong, floral scents, and orchards.

The catchment area above the Mazitan Reservoir dam site is 231.8 square kilometers, with the main river channel stretching 39.45 km and a channel slope of 1.23‰. The total storage capacity is 82.16 million cubic meters, and the designed irrigation area is 228,870 mu. This reservoir is a medium-sized multi-purpose reservoir for year-round regulation, primarily used for agricultural irrigation, along with functions such as flood control, power generation, urban water supply, and aquaculture.

Construction began in 1972, and the main structure was completed in 1978 after six years of building. Covering nearly 7,000 mu with a water surface of 12,000 mu and a water storage capacity of 76.2 million cubic meters, Mazitan Reservoir provides irrigation for over 200,000 mu of fertile farmland across towns such as Baima, Zhongxing, Buyun, and Lanjiang. It is the largest farmland water conservancy project within Anju District.

Although the Mazitan scenic area is still in its early stages of development, it combines breathtaking mountain and water landscapes, serene wild forest scenery, and historical-cultural attractions, making it truly beautiful. The best time to appreciate the charm of Mazitan Reservoir is in early spring. In winter, the water level is low; in summer, the water is murky; and autumn feels too somber. Early spring is ideal—the lake is bathed in bright sunlight, the water is clear and tranquil, with green wheat seedlings and yellow rapeseed fields on the shore, accompanied by buzzing bees and dancing butterflies. Boating here during this season is a delight for both the eyes and the soul. Standing on the 262-meter-long, 30-meter-high dam, the vast expanse of beautiful water stretches out before and beneath you. The 28-km-long reservoir area sprawls like underwater coral, with hundreds of branching streams forming a dense water network, resembling a vibrant aquatic maze sprawling across the shallow hills and fields. Over ten islands surrounded by water are like sparkling gems dotting the emerald lake, inviting you to draw closer and explore.

Baima Town: The beautiful and fertile Baima Town is located 35 km west of Suining City, about 30 km from Anju District, and 30 km from China’s Dead Sea.

Special Industries: The town boasts special industries such as modern livestock breeding, eco-agricultural sightseeing, and leisure tourism. It also produces specialty agricultural products such as golden pears, selenium-rich peanuts, large five-star loquats, walnuts, and peaches. These include 2,000 mu of golden pears, 500 mu of selenium-rich peanuts, 2,000 mu of large five-star loquats, 3,000 mu of walnuts, and 2,500 mu of peaches. Notable tourist resources include Pilusi Temple, Mazitan, and Pingning Primeval Forest.
