The 3D Brown Bear has appeared！Pingtung’s painted rice fields collaborate with LINE and will be unveiled on the 28th

Pingtung’s LINE character-painted rice fields are about to make their debut！In conjunction with LINE, the Pingtung County Government has planted everyone’s favorite LINE FRIENDS cartoon characters across a vast 1-hectare paddy field to celebrate the “First Pingtung International Colored Rice Art Festival.” As the rice sways in the breeze, characters like Brown Bear and Cony seem to run across the Pingtung plains—an incredibly fun sight.

Using chemically induced mutant rice varieties that allow leaves to display colors other than green, these have been applied to create painted landscapes. For this project, the Pingtung County Government has licensed a colored rice paddy painting technique featuring “purple, white, gold, and green,” crafting a rice field that brings LINE characters to life. Nearly ten specialized techniques have been employed to give the images a three-dimensional effect.

The Colored Rice Art Festival will open on March 28 and run until May 10, spanning 44 days. In addition to the LINE FRIENDS painted rice fields, the Pingtung County Government has planned a “Peaceful Prosperity” rice wave maze, an irrigation culture experience area, over 120 stalls for agricultural specialty product sales, weekend educational fun challenge zones, stargazing activities, and more around the site. Meanwhile, at Nanzhou Sugar Refinery, there will also be flower fields, a small travel expo, and a coffee fair.

The colored rice field spans 1 hectare, and a 9-meter-high platform has been built on-site so visitors can get a bird’s-eye view of the entire artwork. Due to the platform’s capacity limits and safety concerns, visitor numbers will be controlled through a quota system—each 15-minute interval allows one group of 100 people to ascend for a 10-minute viewing session. The site is open for 8 hours on weekdays and 9 hours on weekends, with a maximum of 3,200 visitors allowed on the platform per day. Visitors can queue up to receive a numbered ticket for the colored rice viewing.

The colored rice paddy is located at the border between Nanzhou Township and Donggang Township in Pingtung County, near Nanzhou Railway Station. The Nanzhou Sugar Refinery has arranged parking and shuttle bus services. Visitors can obtain tickets either at the colored rice field site or at the Nanzhou Sugar Refinery shuttle bus stop—tickets are distributed every two hours. Each time slot provides 10 numbered tickets for people with disabilities and one accompanying person per disabled visitor, allowing them to also enjoy the colored rice art.
