Qingshui Demonstration Ranch

The Qingshui Demonstration Ranch is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Qingshui Demonstration Ranch was established in May 1980 during a visit to New Zealand by the then Vice Premier of the State Council. It was a collaborative project between China and New Zealand to build a demonstration ranch in northern China’s agricultural region. Its site is located in Yangjiahe Village, Zhengzhuang Town, Qingshui County, at the junction of Qingshui, Anze, and Fushan counties in Shanxi Province. In May 1986, the contract between China and New Zealand expired, and the ranch was officially handed over to Chinese management. Currently, the ranch covers a total area of over 30,000 mu, with a building area of 4,348 square meters and fixed assets worth 4.1 million yuan. It has 11,310 mu of improved pasture, a feed production base of more than 1,000 mu, 125 kilometers of fencing, and 43 units (pieces) of various types of agricultural and pastoral machinery.

The ranch has fixed assets of 6.1 million yuan and employs 37 staff members, including nine with college degrees or higher and holding junior professional titles. It serves as a conservation farm for high-quality breeds of sheep introduced through national projects. It has undertaken and completed the introduction, conservation, and breeding of world-renowned fine breeds such as Angora wool goats, Charollais sheep, and South African Meat Merino sheep, all assigned by the state. The ranch has been designated as a key livestock and poultry breeding farm by both the provincial Department of Agriculture and the national Ministry of Agriculture. It also functions as a research base for cultivating and selecting new breeds, as well as for scientific research institutions and universities.
