Jiaxi Village (Yiyuan) Scenic Area

Jiaxi Village (Yiyuan) Scenic Area is a National AAA-level tourist attraction.

Jiaxi Village (Yiyuan) Scenic Area is the first residential alley in the city to be rated as a National AAA-level tourist attraction. What draws visitors to Jiaxi Village is not only the glimpse it offers of the old mountain city. The scenic area also features historical and cultural buildings such as the former residence of the patriotic democrat Xian Ying and the former site of Soong Tse-ven’s mansion, “Yiyuan.”

The Yiyuan, the former residence of Soong Tse-ven, nestled under the banyan trees, has been restored through conservation efforts to preserve its original appearance. This two-story building, which is a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit, was built in 1937. Between September and October 1945, it served as one of the negotiation sites between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. During that time, U.S. President Harry Truman appointed General George C. Marshall, a five-star general, as his special envoy to China to mediate relations between the two parties on behalf of the U.S. government, and Marshall stayed at Yiyuan.

The former residences of Xian Ying and Yiyuan within the Jiaxi Village Scenic Area, along with historical residences such as the former residence of Zhou Enlai on Zhongshan 4th Road and Guiyuan, as well as the Liziba Anti-Japanese War Culture Park and Hongyan Cultural Square in Hualongqiao, will be connected to form an Anti-Japanese War and culture corridor, promoting more of Chongqing’s history and culture to visitors.
