Ancient Buddha Cliff Carvings at Luohan Temple

The Ancient Buddha Cliff Carvings at Luohan Temple is a Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Ancient Buddha Cliff Carvings at Luohan Temple (including Luohan Temple itself), a Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit, is located on Minzu Road in Yuzhong District.

Luohan Temple was originally built during the Zhiping era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1064–1067) and was initially named Zhiping Temple. The temple was established due to the presence of the Luohan Cave. Within the temple, the over 20-meter-long Ancient Buddha Cliff features more than 400 cliff-carved Buddhist statues from the Song Dynasty, including the Reclining Buddha Nirvana statue (commonly known as the "Sleeping Buddha"), Guanyin statues, and donor portraits, all of which bear a style similar to the stone carvings at Baoding Mountain in Dazu.

In 2000, the Ancient Buddha Cliff Carvings at Luohan Temple were designated as part of the first batch of Chongqing Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Units by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government.
