Sichuan Revolutionary Martyrs Monument

The Sichuan Revolutionary Martyrs Monument is a cultural relic protection unit of Chongqing and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Sichuan Revolutionary Martyrs Monument is located in People's Park on Xinhua Road, Yuzhong District. Yuzhong District’s People's Park is a public leisure area built against a hillside, and the monument stands on a flat piece of land at the highest point of the park. Surrounded by green trees and the soft chirping of birds, the site exudes tranquility with an air of solemnity.

Among the “72 Martyrs of Huanghuagang,” there were three individuals from Sichuan: Yu Peilun, Rao Guoliang, and Qin Bing. To commemorate their heroic sacrifice during the Huanghuagang Uprising, the Sichuan Revolutionary Martyrs Monument was erected in February 1946.

The monument faces south and is rectangular in shape, entirely constructed from high-quality blue-grey stone. It consists of four parts: the top, the main body, the base, and the platform, standing 7.18 meters tall in total. Both its front and back are adorned with relief carvings of swirling cloud patterns. The front of the monument is inscribed with nine characters: “Monument to the Three Martyrs Yu, Rao, and Qin,” while the back bears 26 lines of text detailing the revolutionary deeds of the martyrs. It stands as an important witness to the history of China’s old democratic revolution.

A century has passed, and China has undergone tremendous changes. Today, standing before the monument and gazing through the weathered traces of time, one can still feel the noble spirit of these patriots transcending history. Back then, in a time of national crisis, they were deeply concerned for their country and people, striving for survival and liberation. They fought for freedom within and independence from abroad, seeking light, hope, and rebirth for the Chinese nation, and willingly chose martyrdom as the ultimate fulfillment of their lives. With their blood and lives, they embodied the unwavering patriotic devotion of a generation of youth. They are not only figures of deep reverence but also an enduring inspiration for the people of Chongqing today, urging them to continue striving tirelessly in pursuit of the great rejuvenation and strength of the Chinese nation.
