Bashu Famous Plaques Culture and Art Museum

The Bashu Famous Plaques Culture and Art Museum in Chongqing was originally located at Qipailou in Daping and relocated to Liziba in 2012. It is the second private museum founded by Liu Guangrui and houses over 3,000 precious plaques from various historical periods.

The plaques in the museum are displayed in categories such as birthday celebration plaques, house construction plaques, commercial plaques, wedding plaques, imperial examination plaques, and ancestral hall plaques. The inscriptions on them include phrases such as “Evergreen Heaven and Earth” and “Phoenix Gathering in Tall Trees,” covering themes of merit and prestige, chastity and filial piety, medical ethics, and teaching legacy. The prestige of the calligrapher greatly influences the value of a plaque, and those written by notable figures are the most collectible. Among the museum’s collection are plaques inscribed by an illustrious lineup of historical figures, including He Shaoji, a renowned calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty, Li Hongzhang, a minister of the Beiyang Government, and Zuo Zongtang, a key statesman of the late Qing Dynasty.
