Mount Sangpu

Mount Sangpu, the most renowned mountain in the Chaoshan region, stands at the junction of Shantou, Chaozhou, and Jieyang, where the Tropic of Cancer passes through. The terrain is strategically important, with Fengmen Path (one of the Four Ancient Paths) serving as a vital historical route from Chaozhou to Chaoyang.

This culturally rich area boasts numerous historical sites left by scholars and dignitaries. The mountain features rugged boulders, jagged cliffs, and a multitude of deep, mysterious caves. Ancient temples nestled among the rocks are found everywhere. Among the ranges, the Nonglong Reservoir meanders through the mountains, while the Western Peak rises prominently above the rest, like a sword piercing the sky, surrounded by other peaks. To the east, Lion Head Peak and Stone Turtle Peak form a tripod-like formation. It is said that the mountain hosts 99 caves and temples of various sizes. Gazing into the heart of Mount Sangpu, one sees extraordinary peaks and caves scattered like pearls; below lies a landscape of lake reflections and architectural structures resembling intricately laid pavilions. Sea erosion and fractured rock formations create unique natural scenery. Surrounding East Lake are bizarre stones, peculiar caves, hot springs, mineral springs, temples, tombs, shrines, and stone inscriptions. The historic sites come in a dazzling array of shapes and forms, resembling carved objects and figures, as if placed in a celestial realm. Standing atop Mount Sangpu and gazing at the sky, you can watch the ever-changing clouds and winds. Overlooking the land, you take in the misty hues and panoramic beauty. The vast and magnificent views stretch across the earth and sky, capturing all the splendors of the human world in one place. Truly, this is a serene and beautiful scenic area, worthy of being called a premier attraction in eastern Guangdong, unparalleled in its uniqueness.
