Coastal Promenade

Stretching eastward from Shantou Port Passenger Terminal along the coast to the Bay Bridge is Huanhai Park. In the greenery of the western section, large artistic stone sculptures are arranged, depicting children playing with animals. The sculptures feature unique designs and artistic exaggeration.

The Seaview Promenade is a favorite place for locals to appreciate the sea and unwind. Across the water, the Queshi Scenic Area presents a scene where the mountains are tranquil and the waters dynamic—boats move and birds fly, offering different views from various angles, all best appreciated with a moment of quiet contemplation. Across the road are major structures such as People’s Square, the Gymnasium, Yingbin Guesthouse, the Municipal Party Committee, the Municipal Government, and the Science and Technology Building. At the eastern end of the Seaside Promenade lies the site of the former Shishi Fort, which once controlled maritime traffic. Built in 1874, the fort covers nearly 2,000 square meters. It could house over a thousand soldiers, though no cannons remain today.

Shishi Fort Street: Where the Han River and Rong River meet the sea stands an ancient fort. One can almost envision the long-gone scenes of the Queshi Bay—sails dotting the waters, cannons roaring, the smoke of battle lingering—as stories of resisting foreign invaders and fighting bravely echo through time, both solemn and distant.

Today, what unfolds before people is a magnificent scene beneath the old fort: skyscrapers standing tall, flowers blooming, grass lush, merchants bustling, and a modern urban vibe filling the air. Yet beneath it all lies the heartfelt legacy of generations of Shishi Fort residents who toiled and pioneered with sweat and determination.
