Ancestral Hall of Mu Zu

The Ancestral Hall of Mu Zu is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Ancestral Hall of Mu Zu is located at Sanfang Ci, Lianfeng Neighborhood Committee, Tuolian Subdistrict, Jinping District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, it faces south with a total width of 13 meters and a depth of 21.2 meters, covering an area of approximately 381.56 square meters, with a construction area of 275.6 square meters. In front of the hall is an open courtyard measuring 13 meters in width and 10.2 meters in depth, with a pond located in the center of the southern side of the courtyard, measuring 5.8 meters in length and 3.7 meters in width. The structure follows a two-courtyard, one-sky-well, two-corridor layout. Its exterior features a hip-and-gable roof with plain tile ridges, and the roof ridge is inlaid with porcelain. Above the center of the main entrance is a stone plaque inscribed with the characters “木祖公祠” (Ancestral Hall of Mu Zu) in relief. The interior employs a post-and-lintel construction method. This building is currently one of the better-preserved ancestral halls among all such structures in Liantang. It holds certain value for the study of ancient Chaoshan architecture and Chaoshan folk culture.
