Shantou Museum is a patriotic education base.

Shantou Museum is a comprehensive museum. Located in the serene and elegant Zhongshan Park, it was established in 1960. It serves as the main institution for collecting, exhibiting, educating, and conducting scientific research on cultural relics and specimens in the Chaoshan region. It is also an important patriotic education base and youth education service center in Shantou.

The museum houses nearly 10,000 cultural relics dating from the Neolithic Age to modern times, including ceramics, calligraphy and paintings, gold-lacquered wood carvings, inkstones and seals, ancient coins, and various other artifacts. Among them are some national treasure-level masterpieces. Examples include Chen Mingyuan’s Qing Dynasty Yǒngzhèng-era purple clay decorative piece “Assorted Melons and Fruits for Offering,” one of only two sets known to exist in China; Lin Liang’s rare Ming Dynasty painting “Wild Geese and Magpies on Reeds,” one of the few surviving works by this renowned Guangdong artist; Fang Yizhi’s Ming Dynasty copybook “Imitation of Chu Suiliang and Yu Shinan’s Running Script”; the resplendent and exquisitely carved Qing Dynasty Chaozhou gold-lacquered wood carving “Gold-lacquered Openwork Figure Phoenix Window Panel”; the finely crafted Qing Qianlong-era “Landscape and Figure Jade Inkstone”; and the Qing Daoguang-era “Pine Mountain Travel Green Jade Mountain” among other fine artifacts. These precious collections have earned the Shantou Museum a notable reputation across China.
