Shantou Customs History Exhibition Hall

The Customs Clock Tower is located at No. 2 Waima Road, Huai’an Committee, Haian Subdistrict, Jinping District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province. It was originally the office building of the Chaozhou Customs and is now the Shantou Customs History Exhibition Hall.

The entire building has two floors, a rectangular structure, with open corridors on both sides and 160 decorative mullioned windows around the top, in the style of European neoclassical architecture, with a construction area of 1,556.2 square meters.

The area above the main entrance of the office building is decorated with marble, topped with a carved lion head, giving it a solemn and dignified appearance. In the center is embedded a large clock marked with Roman numerals, from which the Customs Clock Tower gets its name. The chimes of the Customs Clock Tower were once the “standard time” of Shantou City before liberation, accompanying the growth of the older generation of Shantou residents.

The entire exhibition hall is divided into two exhibition areas: upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs displays the historical evolution of the customs in the Chaoshan region, while the upstairs showcases the development and changes of Shantou Customs after liberation.

Opening Hours:

Except for national statutory holidays, it is open every Wednesday from 9:00–11:30 and 15:00–17:00. Entry stops half an hour before closing.
